Some of you may know (I did not until this year) that April is National Stress Awareness Month, and has been since 1992! The purpose is still spread public awareness of both the causes and cures for our modern stress epidemic. Yes, epidemic. After a little research while stress had hit an all time peak for me, I found some pretty interesting findings from Stress Management Society. “According to the Mental Health Foundation, 74% of UK adults have felt so stressed at some point over the last year they felt overwhelmed or unable to cope.” Yes, I know we aren’t in the UK, but imagine how similar these studies are to US adults. Stress is probably one of the greatest public health challenges of our time and is not only a significant factor linked to mental health issues such as depression and anxiety (duh) but is also linked to physical health issues like heart disease and insomnia.
So I turned to one of my favorite blogs/podcasts (The Confused Millennial by Rachel Ritlop) for some help. Lo and behold, I found exactly what I was looking for with a blog titled “10 Quick & Easy Ways To Cut Stress From Your Life ASAP” yes please! But instead of listing all 10 (I will leave the link to the full blog here,) here are the 5 things I decided to turn to to get out of my own little depressed funk I found myself in that was most definitely brought on by stress.
1. Run Your Fingers Through Your Hair
“The scalp has so many nerve endings and I’m going to assume most of us forget about on a daily basis. While it can be comfortable to throw your hair up in a messy bun or pony tail and forgetting about your scalp all day, try mixing things up this month! Take a minute or two each hour to get in there and really massage. If you can, close your eyes, breath deeply, and notice how you feel afterwards. It’s a great way to bring fresh energy into the cranium and is often an area we neglect!”
2. Ask For Help
“Sometimes we can’t do all the things by ourselves – as much as we’d like to. The truth is, people need people. We need community and support in order to reach our fullest potentials and reduce stress...Asking for help is a healthy habit and a sign of strength.”
Oxytocin! You never realize how important human touch is until you need it, like actually need it. “Oxytocin is a feel-good chemical in the brain that’s been known to strengthen positive traits like trust and generosity and reduce things like anxiety and depression.”
4. Incorporate Nature as Much as Possible
I know for me, being outside even just for a little bit tends to reset my mind. Get out there and take a walk, get on a boat, go for a bike ride. “If you can’t get outside every day consider ditching the fluorescent lights in your office and opt for natural light and crack a window! Another way of bringing nature is to spring for some house plants to re-oxygenate your space.”
5. Dance It Out
Dancing is the go to in my house when me or my one of my friends are feeling down or are overwhelmed by something out of our control. Pump some loud music and just get moving, you have no choice but to feel happy once you get into it. Kick the sitting habit!
I hope these tips help you like they did me. And maybe I encouraged you to take a look at The Confused Millennial blog!
Until next time -Brittany

Ladies, we had a great time at our event last week at Logan's Roadhouse! This was most of our vendors' first events outside of home parties, and they rocked it! The ladies of Jacksonville who out came ready to network and get their shopping on made the night that much more amazing, not to mention how awesome our server was that evening. Our swag bags, sponsored by the Jacksonville TDA were perfect for the occasion and were filled with lots of goodies and information about the city I didn't even know about!

I wanted to start the week off by sharing the great lineup of sponsors and Featured Businesses we have for our next Girls Night Out Networking Social! We're all looking forward to a successful event at Logan's Roadhouse, and they're excited to have us in as well. The Jacksonville Tourism Development Authority will be one of our sponsors, they will be providing us with some awesome and informative swag bags on everything to do Jacksonville AND might even be throwing in a nice little giveaway (but you'll just have to come find out for yourself!) As for our Featured Businesses we have (drumroll) LipSense, Color Street, Paparazzi, and Scentsy! If you'd like to get in touch with any of our Featured Businesses before GNO, they're links are attached below! I look forward to seeing you all!
We started the year off by having Girls Night Out at Chuy's Tex-Mex Jacksonville (it's the only one in Eastern NC!) Chuy's was awesome with making accommodations for Housewives in the City Jacksonville, NC. They gave our ladies $1 off ALL sangrias AND a special for their Mucho Tacos, not just that, but every Wednesday they offer a complimentary, fully loaded nacho bar! We were loving the decor of the room we were in, metal palm trees coming up from the ground, brights colors, and we had a front stage view of the tortilla making station. Our servers were great and I couldn't be more thankfully for how smoothly the evening went with our venue choice! Of course, Girls Night Out wouldn't be half as fun without our lovely vendors and the giveaways they provide for our raffle. Overall, January's Girls Night Out was a blast! Lots of networking, mingling and yummy food! Thank you to everyone who came out!
Rodan & Fields is one of the #1 skincare companies in the U.S., and let's face it, you don't become one of the best of best with products that don't work. January was Mandy's second event with us and winter was the absolute perfect time for her to be joining us! She is a product of the brand and she loves to share her own story with Rodan & Fields. It's easy to see why she loves to do what she does. With the weather going back and forth between freezing temps and muggy, rainy days, I love to hear Mandy's recommendations for a new Rodan & Fields skincare routine. I'm also looking forward to the opportunity for her to do mini facials at our upcoming events!

Pure Romance is all about empowering, educating, and entertaining women -- and I'm so glad to have Candice on board with us in Jacksonville as our Pure Romance consultant. She does such an awesome job with explaining every product, sharing what's new in Pure Romance (like their HeLi collection) and she makes you feel comfortable through the shopping experience. All the ladies were excited to learn about the new HeLi collection, a "collection that helps balance your mind and body with exclusive essential oil blends and indulgent body products." Thanks for being the one to introduce us to this collection Candice!
Who doesn't want to spoil themselves with fashionable jewelry, am I right? I'm always so happy to have a Paparazzi Consultant with us at Girls Night Out events for that very reason. Paparazzi does an awesome job at keeping their styles trendy at a price that is available and affordable for everyone - at $5 a piece, one look at something you like and you're hooked. Tasha is great at what she does and always comes ready with some of her favorite pieces to show!

I feel like in 2019, everyone (at least all women) know or have an idea what Scentsy is, but something I have never done was read up on the company. Scentsy's mission is "To bring value to the world by providing an industry-leading, family-friendly business opportunity selling creative, artistic, high-quality products that warm the heart, enliven the senses and inspire the soul." Scentsy definitely does all those things and I'm so glad Christy is our Scentsy lady at our events here in Jacksonville! Not only is she a complete pro in the business, but she knows her stuff and keeps her family at the center of her world. Christy is my Scentsy lady for life! As her shirt at events says, keep calm, she's a Scentsy lady!

Last month I was asked if we had a plan to get a Color Street consultant to be a vendor for future Girls Night Out events - you asked and we got what you asked for! Did you know Color Street designs were inspired by New York City's nonstop energy and wildly colorful fusion of cultures? Toni brought in nail designs for every kind of woman and we loved it! Valentines Day is just around the corner and you HAVE to check out the beautiful designs she has for the day.

Ashley Rescott was the photographer for Girls Night Out at Chuy's and she's such a blast to have around, the ladies absolutely love her and you can guarantee a laughing session when Ashley's around with her camera. She specializes in portrait photography, offering cake smashes, children, family, couples, seniors and boudoir. Yes, boudoir! And her work is beautiful - - check it out here. She is currently located in Camp Lejeune/Jacksonville area and offers shoots on location or at her studio.

Hello Ladies. Let me know if you tried out last weeks recipe. My husband and I have been trying to stick with this healthy eating. So far he has lost 10 pounds since the first of the year.
This week's recipe will be Meatballs and Gravy.
Makes 2 servings.
What you will need:
5 Yukon Gold potatoes 1 yellow onion
3 garlic cloves 1 head of Broccoli
8 oz of ground beef 85/15 ½ cup panko bread crumbs
1 oz of sour cream 2 tsp vegetable oil
3 TBSP butter 1 TBSP flour
¾ cup of water 2 TBSP of beef stock
Salt and pepper to taste
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Wash and dry all produce. Dice the potatoes and finely chop into ½ inch cubes. Peel and finely chop the onion. Peel and finely chop 1 of the garlic cloves, wrap the other 2 cloves in foil. Cut the broccoli florets off the stalk and then cut them into bite-sized pieces.
In a medium bowl, gently combine beef, half the panko, chopped garlic, 3 TBSP onion, ½ tsp salt and pepper. Mix and form into 1-inch balls. Place the meatballs and the garlic in the foil on one side of baking sheet. Toss broccoli with a drizzle of oil and place on the other side of the baking sheet. Add a pinch of salt and pepper to the broccoli. Bake until the meatballs all cooked through, broccoli is browned and tender, garlic is soft, about 15-20 minutes.
Place the potatoes in a medium pot with a pinch of salt and enough water to cover by 2 inches. Bring to a boil and cook until tender, about 10 minutes. Drain and then return the potatoes to the pot. Cover until you are ready to mash them.
Heat 1 TBSP of butter in a large pan over medium heat until melted. Add the remaining onion and a pinch of salt and pepper. Cook, stirring until browned and softened, about 8 -10 minutes. Add flour then continue to stir and cook until lightly browned, about 1 minute. Gradually stir in ¾ cups of water until fully blended. Stir in Beef stock and simmer until it thickens, about 1 minute. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Reduce heat to low.
Place roasted garlic from the foil onto a cutting board; mash with a fork. Add the garlic to the potatoes along with the sour cream and 2 TBSP of butter. Mash adding splashes of water if needed until you reach desired consistency. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
Add meatballs to the gravy pan and stir until coated with gravy.
Then plate the mashed potatoes and broccoli and put the meat balls on top with gravy.
Let us know if you try the recipe and how you like it.
