Now that summer is almost over it is time to start getting ready for your kids to go back to school. With that comes school supply shopping, planning school lunches, and working on getting the kids back on a schedule.
Heading back to school can become costly so I have put together some tips to help you save. This year we did our Back to School shopping with Dollar General and were able to take advantage of their great deals and extra back to school savings.
First, when prepping for you back to school shopping get organized. Make a list of everything that you are going to need for your Back to School shopping. Do not forget to get a copy of your child’s school supply list to take with you.
Dollar General has helped take the hassle out of tracking down your child’s school supply list by creating a Teacher’s List feature on their website. With this feature all you have to do is type in your zipcode to find your child’s list. Make sure you print it out and bring it along for your shopping adventure.
There are several different categories of items that you will need to shop for during your back to school shopping.
When you are shopping for your child’s school supplies it is easy to remember the items such as: a backpack, notebook, crayons, markers, etc. You also want to make sure you include items for the classroom, such as: hand sanitizer, paper towels, clorox wipes, kleenex. These types of items are things that the teacher will use all year to help keep the classroom clean.
Savings Tip: when shopping for the classroom supplies make sure you check out the DG Home items to save a little extra.
Make sure you add lunch items to your list of Back to School items to pick up. Dollar General’s Good & Smart brand offers healthy options at an affordable price. We grabbed some of their Fruit & Veggie snacks and a pack of Apple Crisps to add to the boys lunch boxes.
Look for Special Promos
When it comes to Back to School shopping most stores run specials, which helps make shopping more budget friendly. This year Dollar General has a great deal for parents who are back to school shopping. Make sure you check out their Spend $15 Save $5 promotion! This promotion is valid on school supplies, including: backpacks, lunch kits, folders, glue, pens, pencils, and more.
Make sure you download it to your digital coupons before heading to the store.

This foundation supports youth and adult literacy programs across the country.
As a mom, literacy is very important to our family and our community. By teaching our children to read and write we are helping prepare them for a bright future and giving them the tools they need to succeed.
