I cannot believe how fast the year went by and that it is already time for the Holidays. I love decorating for the holidays and making our home magical for the boys. When shopping at Dollar General I am am able to find everything I need and not break the bank. Check out some of decorating and gift tips below.
Decorate a Small Tree with the Kids
This is one of my favorite things to do. Is is a fun activity for the whole family and the kids take pride in their little tree and placing all of the decorations. Plus, it keeps them from constantly messing with the decorations on your main tree. I like to coordinate the decor with what we are doing in the Living Room and then we place the tree by the fireplace.
I purchased a 4ft tree ($12) and a box of white lights (under $3) for them to decorate. My local Dollar General also had several pre-lit trees for $15 but the boys like stringing the lights. I also grabbed an assortment of $1 ornaments and then a package of christmas lights for $3. So this fun little project for them was under $30, plus it can be reused for years to come.
Transform Your Fireplace
Your fireplace is the center point of your home. The majority of time is spent in the living room centered around the fireplace, so this is the area that I focus on the most. I grabbed some fun festive garland, some light up present boxes ($10), and a snowman statue. We will also use the small tree that the boys decorated to complete this area.
Decorate Your Front Door
There is nothing better than pulling up to your house and seeing all of the holiday decor. I wanted to keep it simple and fun this year so while at my local Dollar General, I grabbed a front door mat($8), a holiday wreath ($10), a stand up Santa ($6), and a set of light up presents ($10) to add to the outside holiday fun. I was able to grab all of this for less than $35 and make my front porch fun and festive.
Grab All Your Wrapping Supplies
Don’t forget while you are shopping to grab all of your holiday wrapping supplies. I grabbed mine from Dollar General and was able to get everything I needed for under $12. Plus they had tons of wrapping paper rolls for $1 each. If you do not have one already, then grab a small plastic bin to keep your tape, scissors, ribbon, gift tags, etc in. This is a great way to stay organized and always have everything you need at your fingertips. When you are shopping for your Holiday Wrapping Supplies make sure you grab a few bags and boxes in addition to the wrapping paper.
Pick Up Gifts that Everyone Will Love
When headed out to holiday shop make sure that you make a list of who all you have to shop for and what your budget is for each person. I picked up a few of the boys Christmas presents when I was at Dollar General the other day. They have everything that the boys love, including: LEGO, Hot Wheels, Fisher Price, Paw Patrol, and tons of other Disney items. I even found a Bluetooth speaker for my husband. This made it an easy one stop shop for me.
Don’t Forget the Stocking Stuffers
Now this one is very important. Make sure you grab stockings for everyone and do not forget those fur babies. Grab a couple like items to add to the stockings and my boys always love finding treats in there so I picked up some Nutella Dippers and their favorite Good & Smart gummies.
My holiday shopping trip was a success! I was able to grab my holiday decor, wrapping supplies, and even gifts for the boys without breaking the bank. In addition to all of the great prices, I was able to save more by using DG Digital Coupons and the new DG App. Make sure you remember that there is a Save $5 off $25 digital coupon every Saturday. So make sure you download the app before you head to the store and clip your digital coupons to maximize savings during your holiday shopping.

DOLLYWOOD’S SMOKY MOUNTAIN CHRISTMAS
Christmas comes early in the Smokies thanks to the festival voted the Best Theme Park Christmas Event in America for 12 consecutive years, Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas presented by Humana (Nov. 9, 2019-Jan. 4, 2020). During the festival, the park boasts an impressive count of more than five million brilliant lights, heartwarming Christmas entertainment, delicious holiday meals and the fun of Dollywood at Christmas.
Glacier Ridge presented by Goo Goo Cluster® opened last season, providing guests a completely new way to experience the Smokies at Christmas. Thanks to the opening of Wildwood Grove earlier this year, there is even more to explore in this dazzling area. Glacier Ridge offers a number of activities, displays and dining options to enjoy for guests while they wander through this immense winter wonderland, which includes the areas of the park known as Timber Canyon, Wildwood Grove, Wilderness Pass and the upper portion of Craftsman’s Valley.
“There’s nothing like Christmas in the Smokies,” Dolly Parton said. “I’ve been a lot of places and seen a lot of things, but the feeling of being home with the people I love at Christmas really is one of the most special things in the world to me. It’s my hope that the people who come experience my Dollywood at Christmas make those same sweet memories they’ll be able to share forever. I also hope we’re able to help them start some brand new Christmas traditions right here!”
Guests visiting Glacier Ridge may feel as if the Smokies have frozen over, and they’ve been transported to the arctic. The Plaza at Wilderness Pass transforms into a winter wonderland, complete with a 50 ft. tall animated tree which anchors the area. Every 30 minutes the Plaza sparkles to life, presenting a fully-synchronized, dazzling light show complete with holiday hits that leave guests singing along.
For those entering from Timber Canyon, the Arctic Passage, a 130-ft. long programmable light tunnel, transports them into Glacier Ridge in a stunning array of light and color. Once emerging from the tunnel, guests are greeted by polar bears who have made a home at Drop Line Bay. Those coming to Glacier Ridge through Craftsman’s Valley experience a one-of-a-kind light installation that mimics the natural phenomenon known as the aurora borealis. Guests can walk through Dollywood’s version of the Northern Lights, brought to life with music as only Dolly can do to help guests feel as if the aurora borealis has come south, even if for just a few weeks.
From the cheer and joy of Dollywood’s Parade of Many Colors, to traditional holiday shows like It’s a Wonderful Life and Christmas in the Smokies, Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas fosters family memory making for guests. For those who wander through the spectacular scenery, it is easy to understand why it has become a family tradition for so many. Guests can experience the fun enchantment of Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer and friends straight from the children’s holiday classic or sit down together for a fabulous Christmas feast at many of Dollywood’s award-winning dining locations. Most of Dollywood’s signature rides and attractions also operate in this merry environment, with rides racing along just above the millions of twinkling lights.
Amusement Today contributors and voters bestowed the Best Theme Park Christmas Event award on Dollywood in 2008 when the honor was first created. Dollywood is the 12-time—and only—winner of the award.
A season pass purchased during Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas provides unlimited admission to this year’s Christmas festival along with unlimited admission for Dollywood’s entire 2020 season. Guests should purchase their 2020 season pass online now or upgrade their paid one-day admission ticket on the day of their visit. Ticket purchasers receive credit for the value of a regular one-day ticket toward the purchase of a 2020 season pass. Dollywood celebrates its 35th anniversary season next year with the new Flower & Food Festival, the return of the Gazillion Bubbles Show, and a calendar full of fantastic festivals and entertainment.
