Book that date! I learned about this secret from my boss. I work for a relatively small company, so I report to the CEO. He just flat out told me to take him to lunch sometimes. I felt a bit awkward about it because I was thinking, in the past, this was something my boss would request of me. Well, apparently times have changed. I took him to lunch and it did not feel awkward, because I was in control of the conversation.
Things can get a little crazy in the office. Working in Human Resources for almost 20 years, I have learned a few things about the importance of communication and feedback.
If you thought inviting your boss out for lunch was not your responsibility, think again. Getting some one-on-one time outside the office setting has a number of benefits, including helping you develop and maintain good relations with your employer, as well as helping you keep your finger on the pulse of what’s happening around the office. While it might seem awkward at first, since no one really does it, if your boss turns you down - don't worry. If your boss accepts, use it to your advantage. Your boss may worry about the way it is perceived in the office. Communication is so important and here's their chance to step up and say that you invited her. Maybe the team should learn from you and take some initiative.
Find out when She or He is available and send a lunch meeting request. Meet somewhere close and informal. Offer to pay, this is very critical. If you have a company credit card, this is the perfect time to expense.
You are now entering the world, of a New Orleans girl drinking cold pressed juices, eating salads and grain bowls. This weekend was very busy, but I was determined to check this place out. The weather has been bummy all weekend..but a girl has ventures to create, moves to make and stories to shake! To accurately describe it, the weather has been at war with itself. I am not sure if I should wear rainboots, flip flops or ballet flats. Weather aside, my sister and I had a lunch date at the Daily Beet location on Magazine Street and it was some goodness to talk about. I spend a great deal of my time talking about food..but I am pretty health conscious.... It not only helps manage my weight it also helps the immune system, gives off loads of energy and delays the effects of aging. As a foodie, I believe in balance with diet and nutrition. Moderation is key! In a fast-paced world, filled with faster-paced gadgets... connecting us to vast amounts of information... with faster and faster speeds, the time has never been more appropriate to moderate our lives.
Restaurants in New Orleans are definitely picking up the speed for the health conscious eaters. Restaurants with Vegan and Gluten free menus are on the rise. Pretty soon, the Oprah backed restaurant True Food kitchen will hit the Garden District like a storm. Folks will be standing in line, hoping to be at least two degrees of separation away from Oprah!!! Surely, I will be hoping they are at least six, or fewer, social connections away from meeting her. Let me know, I want to meet her too...
Of course, we ordered a spread of items on the menu:
Have you been to any of these Daily Beet locations? This place is delicious and definitely an Instagram worthy place to shoot vivid photos.
The Daily Beet has three locations:
330 Magazine Street
New Orleans, LA 70115
1000 Girod Street
New Orleans, LA 70113
2381 St. Claude Avenue
New Orleans, LA 70117
After you reach a certain age, clubs and lounges seem a little far fetched...especially for weeknights. There are all sorts of things to do in the city. Most of the time, my outtings revolve around food. This blog is certainly about the food, eats, comida, beber, drinks. I thought I would mix a little spanish influence in there.
There's nothing greater than a random night out during the week. My suggestions would be start off at a quiet place like the Library then go visit a place you may never have visited like Titos Cevice & Pisco for Peruvian Cuisine. I am definitely interested in entering the world of Global Cuisine. The food and drinks at both places are sooooooo good. I was pleasantly surprised!
Titos Cevice & Pisco
Sangrias at the Library
Octopus and Tuna at Titos
Gorgeous drinks at Titos.....definitely a Lychee Martini in there!
Titos Cevice & Pisco for Peruvian Cuisine.
Such a beautiful patio area and the indoor area was also nice.
The last 4 shots were taken at The Library. The cheese fries are something like unforgettable!
New Orleans is a place that is typically really hot or really nice weather. Pretty much two seasons. I like to get my girls outdoors as often as possible. My husband does a better job at this. He would volunteer to take them to the park on weekends and I was just like..."go"..."me time please"! They usually come back with that delicious outdoor smell, excited and telling me all about their adventures. The #1 park that we frequent the most, happens to be close to our neighborhood. New Orleans has beautiful parks that we have not even visited yet. Sometimes, we will be driving and pass a park. We would stop briefly to let the girls get a little swing and slide time. In the summer months, it's a little tougher to get them out there, especially when the sun is shining bright. The best times to visit are after 6:00 pm or early in the morning. Audubon Park is one of the most beautiful parks in the city. I did not include it in my blog because the kids prefer the parks that I mentioned below. Audubon is perfect for a jogging. This blog focuses on parks with activities. I would suggest keeping a picnic blanket and sun umbrella in the car at all times. I also like to keep a chair in the car.
1. Joe Brown Park
5601 Read Blvd,
New Orleans, LA 70127
There's just so much to do at this park. Not to mention, it is only 5 minutes away from my house. The kids love the play area and the track. They also love the paddle boats. . It is newly renovated. There are tennis courts, basketball courts, pool, recreation center and more. My oldest daughter took her first steps at this park. The first picture was taken around Christmas. As you can see, they were pretty comfortable in December.

2. Daneel Playground Park
5501 St. Charles Ave.
New Orleans, LA 70115
Driving down St. Charles, I noticed this beautiful park. I took the kids for a picnic and they had the times of their lives. We have not been here since last summer. I plan on taking them in the Fall.
3. Burke Playground
2524 Annunciation St.
New Orleans, LA 70130
I was surprised when we attended a birthday party here. I did not even know the park existed. It is a huge park with lots of space and activities. This is definitely one of our favorite playgrounds.
4. Broadmoor Play Spot
2021 S. Dupre,
New Orleans, LA 70125
This park is right next to our church - The Promise Church. We take the kids here before we start our Sunday activities. It's small but the kids just want to swing and slide. It's usually pretty quiet on Sunday mornings.
5. City Park
1 Palm Drive
New Orleans, LA 70124
So much to do at City Park from running to Botanical Gardens, Amusement Parks, City Putt, Story Land, New Orleans Museum of Art, Train Garden and the Louisiana Children's Museum. You can have a special event i.e. birthday party or just go and visit all of the attractions for the day. It's really not that convenient for us to come here regularly, so I did rank them at the bottom. BEAUTIFUL PARK..
One of the most beautiful in the city. We had our daughter's birthday here on e year and it was truly an experience. It was like we stepped in a Disney movie.

6. Wimbleton Park
5200 Edenboro Rd.
New Orleans, LA 70127
How did we find this quiet neighborhood gem. It sits right behind a family member's house. We were searching for their house and decided to stop at the park first. The park has a few swings and a sliding board. Also, some monkey stuff for the kids to jump on.

I love spending time eating out and 'adult-ing' with my husband, sisters, friends and business associates. I also really like taking my kids to restaurants. My top priority is good parking. Parking lots with kids work well for my anxiety. I have visited GREAT restaurants and parked on the street. That's fine, sometimes..but accessibility rules with kids. I am also looking for a place that knows the language of kids. What do I mean? Have you ever visited a place and your kids were talking and a stranger said shhhhh to you? Well, that is my point. I like friendly service with my kids. I am getting them out of the house so that they can let loose somewhere besides home. Bringing out those crayons, puzzles and coloring books are winners in my book. Kids get bored easily, they like to be entertained by atmosphere and space to run around. If you ever want to take my wild bunch out, places with patio areas are always welcome. It's very similar to a park to the kids and they have more freedom to just be themselves (tiny, wild creatures)...
You can always visit the local beignet shop, but some other family - friendly places do exist in the New Orleans area that are worth mentioning. Restaurants like these know that kids are the number one decision makers in homes.
The new Louisiana Children's Museum https://www.lcm.org/ will open on 8/31. I am excited to also visit Dickie Brennan's cafe https://www.dickiebrennanssteakhouse.com/ , which provide seating for over 100 people. The café will also have a culinary lab and child-size dining booths. Brennan's is one of the few fancy restaurants that offer a kid's menu. I have not taken my kids here yet. I was recently invited to take the kids to a manners class. The class is offered to Kindergartners and First Graders. I will see how the end of this summer goes and try to work on that in the Fall.
The Audubon Zoo also has a great indoor and outdoor eating area with many selections ranging from salads to hamburgers. The kids really like the outdoor area near the food court.
1) The Backyard
Who wouldn't love a place that has a backyard with swings and picnic benches for kids to act wild? Located in the Lakeview area, it also has TVs and a full restaurant/bar. I ranked this #1 because you can't dream of having anything like this with the exception of your own backyard. The foods are perfect for kids - hot dogs, hamburgers, fries and nuggets. The drinks are a great idea for the adults
2) Santa Fe'
Maybe I am borderline obsessed with Santa Fe' because this was the first restaurant I took my first baby to. We sat outside and had the time of our lives. After being coooped inside for months, my sisters invited us to dinner. Us meaning me and the new baby so they could sneak some snuggles over sangrias....the food is always good and I love the sangrias and margaritas. The menu is not large but the food is very flavorful. I really like the kids tacos and also the soft shell chicken tortillas are cooked perfectly.
They offer more than just a great BOW WOW punch. For mommies and daddies, this outdoor seating area is perfect for kids. In the winter, they turn up the heat outside with heaters. They don't have a kids menu but the kids love the chicken tenders, red beans and crab claws. I don't expect for every restaurant to have specific menus for kids but at least have some good options. My kids can eat some jazzy wings here! Char-Grilled Oysters! YUM is the WORD. Like WOW POW..
We took one of our daughters here and she felt so special. She was about 6 months old and we could see the look in her eyes. She really enjoyed it at Neyows.
4) Dat Dog
I just love their vegan dog options. The smoked apple sausage is so good. One night my husband and I attended a birthday party at the Rusty Nail and I saw this truck. I had to get a dog and a photo. The kids menu has chicken tenders, grilled cheese and a small hot dog. I still breathe a sigh of relief when I see kids menus.
What more can I say, they let the kids be kids. The coloring books and open space is really great for kids. I really like driving up to park. No lots or street parking here. You can park on the street, but valet is so convenient. The drinks are good for the mommies, I enjoy the happy hour on Sundays. Those frozen drinks that come in threes..you must try. They are different frose's. The Fried Chicken is LIT.. after all, it is Al Copeland's restaurant. My kids are at a stage that they really like atmosphere. This place delivers for all of our foodie needs.
6) Superior Grill
I take my kids here after their dental appointments. It's my thank you for not acting a dang fool in the dentist. They are always surprised and cheer when we come here. The waiters so graciously bring us salsa dip and chips. They usually enjoy dipping the queso dip. I like the margarita happy hour and a chicken fajita that is cooked well. The management team has always been supportive of the kids and offering booster chairs when needed. Parking is on the street, but we usually come early enough to get a decent parking spot.
This is pretty picture perfect, there is a pinkberry right next to Felipes. The adults ordered the food and the kids wanted the yogurt. Felipes is my idea of quick service restaurants. It is not fast food, it does take time but the food gets out pretty quickly. You go to the window and order ya buritto and dress it with pico de gallo, guac, beans, queso and they roll it and wrap it. These burritos are so big, the kids can share your plate. Go sit down to kids running all around. I really like the outdoor space here. We try to get there when we can.
I have been coming to this restaurnt for so long. I really like the happy hour and parking situation. When I had kids, the love was extended. We don't come here too often but when we do we make a learning experience out of it for the girls. We let them eat with chop stix while mommy drinks her sake. You really can't beat the happy hour here with kids.. parking is really the icing on the cake.
I worked for Waffle House so I understand the language. If you visit, you will notice terms being said used like "drop waffle on 2 etc. I did many tastings here. I was the almighty People Director and Public Relations...so I was working in here as an office. I got to test any food on the menu. I always admired the way children were adored in here. The cute hats, nice high chairs, colorful menus, music on the jukebox and big plates. I also had the privilege to deal with customer complaints and training issues. I am really grateful to have this experience. I learned how to cook on the grill, make bomb coffee and setup a table for guests.
The menu has changed but the food looks the same. I think this is an All Star Special.
10 ) Felix's formerly Brisbi's
Can't beat this impeccable view. Parking is near the lakefront on the street. We usually visit the location on the lakefront. The char-grilled oysters are so good and tender here. I love the raw oysters as well. Back to the kids.. There is so much of space for them to feel free. The kids menu is also really appealing here. They enjoy the chicken tenders and fries..it's just that simple. Give kids adequate space, amazing views, great food, activities to write on instead of the tables and they are all set.
The new trend in Pizza places is to make spacious environments for kids to eat and have fun. I really like a few local pizza spots especially Reginelli's, Midway Pizza, Slice, Blaze and That's Amore'. I may have to do a pizza blog soon, right?
Do you like to travel by air very often? Wouldn’t it be nice if you could get an upgrade for your next trip? Keep in mind that asking for an upgrade is not an easy task, so you better be prepared for it. There are millions of people across the globe who travel frequently on the plane every single day. So if you want to shine bright in the agent’s office for an upgrade, you better be mindful about whatever you have to say. Earlier, people would often get surprised when the agent would paddle a boarding pass with a very low row number.
Now things have changed, and you will have to pay extra dollars for an “upgrade” on your trip. If you want to make it to the front row, that is the best for you because you will be able to navigate out of the plane early. However, with the chances of asking for an upgrade going down, there are still some techniques with which you can ask for an upgrade. If you don’t want to keep reading and just have somebody do the leg work for you check out these guys who can get you the best price.
Let me give you some quick tips to ask for an UPGRADE:
Make sure that you have a perspective about what you need to get. Trying to act over smart or too much talking will compel the agents to choose somebody else if the opportunity is there. Secondly, if you’re not good at it, don’t waste the other person’s time. Moreover, if you are traveling with your family, there’s no reason to ask for an upgrade since the agents won't put up the entire family in the front ro
Though dressing has got nothing to do in the entire process. However, it does adds a bit of sugar to your entire persona. Don’t expect a ticket upgrade if you’re dressed up inappropriately. To get this work done, you should be dressed neatly. Sometimes there are people on the flight whom the passengers don’t even want to sit next to. So better take care of your clothes when going to ask for an upgrade.
Be on time
Don’t forget that agents have hundreds of people to manage and deal with every single day. If you have booked an appointment with one, don’t be late for it. Showing up late for an upgrade will result in you your chances getting chucked out. Your upgrade is also coherent with the agent's mood. Don’t meet at a time when there are a lot of people around. Have a good time for meeting and proceed with your request.
Be to the point and very precise. Refrain from putting circles in front of the agent. Always be confident about what you want to get and add a “please’ if necessary. Secondly, be polite in what you say, don’t try to have a harsh tone. Asking politely won't do any harm would help you in getting what you just asked for.
Don’t forget the past
If you had an inconvenient experience with the same airline, don’t mind asking for an upgrade. Airlines don’t usually upgrade, but if they have caused you any trouble, the chances of getting an upgrade are high. If you are on an international flight, don’t forget to ask about the check-in availability because agents have more control over the seating chart.
Befriend your travel agent
A good key to ask for an upgrade is to befriend your very own travel agent. This is the easiest way to get an upgrade in the airplane. Some travel agents have good networking with other airlines to and thus, can help in getting in an upgrade in a different airline. If you get to sit in the front row or the place you’re fond of, it will be easy for you to hope out of the plane.
Don’t forget to wear a smile on your face when asking for an upgrade. Be confident and go with the flow. If you’re lucky enough, you’ll surely get an upgrade to have a great experience during travel.
I clicked my heels 3 times, and landed on Dumaine and St. Ann. What is so unique about this area? The oak trees, in City Park area, and the moss makes it special. The colorful houses with southern porches...ahhhh..this is what New Orleans is known for. It is definitely worth visiting. If that isn't enough inspo, check out some of our food photos below.
Ralphs on the park is currently offering 3 appetizers and a glass of wine for $33.. The special runs now through September.
Ralph Brennan's restaurants are ALWAYS on the top of my list. Food, drinks. service & atmosphere are highly ranked here. Thank you to our AMAZIING server! I have not visited this restaurant in years but social media memories occasionally remind me of my wonderful experiences. This is one of my favorite restaurants for birthdays, group dinners and power lunches. Also good for date nights and double dates. Remember double dates? They were the brunch dates of the 90s.
Seating is very important to me in restaurants. I want the best seat in the house. It may be the chef's table, the beautiful window seat or the seat next to this beautiful picture or mural. Atmosphere is so important for the experience. What are some important things about a restaurant besides food for you?
I visited the restaurant with my friend. We decided to share our food, so we ordered a total of 6 small plates. We also had a glass of vino, Benvolio, Pinot Grigio and cocktails. Needless to say, we had a blast. This was that 'Me Time'.. time well spent. As a bonus, bar nerds - I think they had purse hooks. We did not sit at the bar but I am almost sure of it.
Here were our TOP PICKS:
1) Crab Gratin, Brie & Cream Cheese, Pickled Mushrooms, Crispy Garlic Crumbs. This was truly a delicious combination. I enjoyed every bite of this. I will definitely order this again.
2) Jumbo Lump Crab & Creole Tomato Salad - Had me feeling good on the inside. Made with Louisiana Jumbo Lump Crabmeat, Basil Vinaigrette, Sweet Onion, Fresh Mozzarella and Greens. I loved the flavor and texture of this appetizer..very light.
3) Tempura Shrimp Creole - This was, OMG, amazing! It was Creole Sauce Spiked with Lime and cole slaw. Definitely my favorite dish.
4) Oysters Skully - Fried Oysters, Skully's Crystal & Pepper Jelly with onions. I do not really remember the taste of this dish. I would not choose this in the future.
5) Grilled Vegas Strip - This wasn't on my first choice but I was pleasantly surprised at the taste of the Romesco Sauce, Baby Kale, Sherry Vinaigrette. It surprised me because it wasn't tender. It took some time to cut but worth the wait.
6) Duck & Mushroom Flatbread - I wouldn't have chosen this but it was a spectacular blend of Duck Confit, Caramelized Onions and Organic Mushrooms. I am so glad Kat ordered this appetizer.
7) Parmesan-Black Pepper Fries - Our server added this to our selections. They were so flavorful. The garlic dipping sauce was impeccable.
8) Lemon Posset - This was a light velvety lemon custard. The sweet almond brittle gave me life. The seasonal watermelon fruit and lime sorbet were perfect. I never go to a restaurant thinking of dessert but I am usually pretty WOWED at the ways chefs add creatively to them with one simple garnish like a mint.
3 appetizers and a glass of wine for $33..

My Ace and I stopped in this cute, relatively new, boutique bar. Bar Marilou is the latest HOT SPOT located in the Maison de La Luz hotel (Ace property) on Carondelet Street.. Society girls, keep this on your radar! As a blogger, people are constantly asking me the who, what, when, where and how. Hopefully I answer all your questions.
Velvet rope, bottle service? Nope. Very comfy, non pretentious environment The bar has a luxury/swanky ambiance and décor with luscious, red walls and large bookcase. My initial reaction was (escape to a french library)..... but it also feels like L.A., it feels like Miami, it feels like N.Y. summertime Chi, ah!!! FACT: It was previously the library of City Hall Annex.
Alexa,, take me to fabulous... This is it! I predict this bar will be a crowd favorite. It's gonna be a hot girl summer! Perfect for Girls Nights Out!
As a reviewer, I look for:
As a New Orleans native, it's refreshing to see business development on this scale in the warehouse district. At the entrance door, I thought to myself "Did I stumble into a millionaire's large personal library"?. The perfect atmosphere for the "Creatives" and "Collectives"..I was thumbing through some books (while posing for photos) and would definitely add a few on my bucket list to read..
The menu offers about ten small plates, blends influences from the French West Indies, Paris, and New Orleans, with items like foie gras terrine, seared scallops, and salt cod fritters. Still not sure what this is about? The drink list is interesting with specialty cocktails, wines and craft beers. The menu has some of the best wines for tasting and pairing.
My ace (twin sister) ranked this place at the top of her list!
We ordered the Pommes Marilou (crispy potatoes, creme fraiche and caviar). We also ordered the Saint Jacques (seared scallops, charred brocolli with blackberries). Deliciousness in foodie paradise. We could not pass up dessert. It was indulgent Chocolate Pot De Creme (pecan chantilly, bourbon and cherry.
As a food/everything blogger, wine connoisseur and lover of all good things NOLA. I love pretty drinks..... I tell the bartenders to make my drinks pretty if they want a pretty customer. They laugh and usually bring out the BEST DRESSED drink for me. In this case, we got amazing orders and Django, Jardin De Meme, Ti' Punch and Chartreuse flavored marshmallows (which were brand spanking new on the menu).. I give the drink selection a 5 star rating. I will be on cloud 9 for a while over this place.
Here are a few memories from the night. I highly recommend that you visit and get there quick before all the space is taken with regulars.
