I am so excited about BRUNCH. Arana Taqueria has a brunch on Sundays 11 am – 3 pm, with Mexican brunch favorites, PLUS $20 bottomless Margaritas, Mimosas and Bloody Mary’s (you can rotate cocktails within this bottomless deal!). The guacamole is sooo good. Menu items include: Huevos Rancheros, Breakfast Tostada, Yucatan-style Grits and Grillades, Shrimp Flauta, Jalapeno Griddle Corn Cakes and Mojo Fried Chicken, Chilaquiles Skillets and more! I really enjoyed the Mojo Fried Chicken and Guacamole. The bottomless mimosas are so good.
BONUS: They also have Big screen TVs for Sunday Saints games, and a nice outdoor patio for this gorgeous Fall weather!Araña Taqueria y Cantina
I profess my love of food often, I know.. The Popeyes chicken sandwich is REALLY good. I discovered it the first day it came out. I saw a few stories and immediately visited the location near my job. I recently discovered the Chick-fil-A sandwich. I had mixed emotions, because I saw how tiny it was on the videos. I decided to try the spicy sandwich and was instantly hooked. Yes, it get's deep. I had to cut the chord and revisit some local spots that have just as spectacular sandwiches (if not better).
5) Jewel of the South
1026 St Louis St
New Orleans, LA 70117
It's a tiny sandwich, but it gives the littles hope. The chicken just melts in your mouth and it has a good flavor. This modest restaurant is in the French Quarter area. It has New Orleans flavor and the drinks are also really good.
4) Big Poppa Burgers
3300 4th St
Harvey, LA 70058
Master Ps newest adventure will make you say ughhh nah, nah nah nah.. The chicken sandwich is on the heftier side but it is packed with flavor. The bread is not as fresh as the others but the chicken is so good, you won't really notice the bun. I will definitely give the salmon burger a hard pass, due to the frozen taste of the patty. I hope this restaurant can hang in there because the burgers are really good.
3) Munch Factory
6514 Congress Dr
New Orleans, LA 70126
Now three locations, I visited the Pontchartrain Park location. The chicken sandwich is definitely a contender. The creole inspired sandwich tastes so good.
2) The Company Burger
4600 Freret St
New Orleans, LA 70115
The company burger blew up so fast, I am not really sure how many locations they have in New Orleans now. The chicken sandwich is AMAZING. Not over the top or heavily saturated in oil just good and flavorful. It was definitely a tough call between this and #1.
1) Picnics and Provisions
741 State St
New Orleans, LA 70118
Wow what a sleeper who got to the top during all of the original chicken wars. It is a HUGE sandwich This beautiful uptown neighborhood gem will take your heart. I am a sucker for size. I really enjoyed the chicken sandwich because I could literally take half home to eat. That's how big it was. It is very spicy. I also rate higher on spicy flavor.
Honorable mention to Raising Canes. They are definitely a US franchise, like Popeyes and Chick-fil-A but they were founded in Baton Rouge, LA and on that delicious secret dipping sauce with the chicken sandwich on the fresh bun for a while. They are getting the short end of the stick and that is some good chicken. Shake Shack just recently opened on Canal. The chicken sandwich must have literally shaken up the city when they first moved here in Metairie, LA. I recall right after their opening, all h@$$...broke loose in the chicken wars. This beautiful fiasco all started in Louisiana. I have heard wonderful things about the Bonafried Chicken. I can never catch the food truck. If anyone can help me find them, let me know. Blue Oak BBQ, I am coming for you as well. I have been watching those photos.
I am always on the hunt for that next chicken sandwich that's getting it's moment. Let me know if you have any other local favorites.
