date night at Broussard's
So, the dating police came knocking at our door. They were about to give my husband a citation for a lack of dating his wife. To be 100% transparent, it's both of our fault. We juggle the kids, school after school activities working careers, clubs- but we always neglect the date life.
We agreed on a nice restaurant in the heart of the city. My husband is not from New Orleans, so sometimes we disagree about some restaurants. We wanted to walk the quarters on Royal and Chartres and catch some day light. We needed a true date night, we have had our
share of play dates this month.
Broussard's is a charming restaurant and valet parking is complimentary.
The food selection is a mix of french and creole. I was primarily, interested
in the $19.20 (3 course Prix Fixe) It's available for dinner only. Broussard's offer the $19.20 specials from the end of June through mid September(annually); to honor their 99 years of food and service to New Orleans.
I can sit at a restaurant with a white table cloth or a hole in the wall. It does not matter, if the food is good.
Broussards is definitely a well established clean restaurant. From the Empire bar to the Patio area, every detail is perfect and well defined.
We sat at the Empire bar and had drinks that were $1.92. My husband was pleased with the pricing and the cocktail. This week, the featured drink was the Bees Knees. It was so good. I would highly recommend stopping by to grab a drink while walking during Essence. There is no dress code, even though it feels fancy. You can select white or black napkin...choices...That is my favorite...just sayin!
The bottle we chose was the sparkling Jules Larose Blanc de Blanc Brut . It was perfect with our choice of starters. For starters, I chose the cold tomato soup and my husband selected the ceasar salad. Both excellent choices, although I really liked the taste of the tomato soup; the ingredients were fresh.
For dinner, my husband got the Rosemary Rubbed Chicken Breast with Grilled Asparagus, Roasted Creole Tomatoes, Lemon Tarragon Aioli. I ordered the Moules Frites with Whitewater Mussels, Roasted Garlic Broth, Vin Blanc, Leeks, Parmesan, Pommes Frites. The mussels were sooo good. The chicken breast was also very tasty. I think we both made wise choices.
Dessert was Almond Bread Pudding and Blueberry Mint Cobbler. Both excellent choices!!!!!!!!!!
$19.20 Bottle of wine
$1.92 happy hour cocktails
We sat at the Empire Bar for cocktails since they are only $1.92.
The bartender did mention the specials run daily from 3p-7p. Every day has a different featured drink. On the day we visited it was the Bee's Knees flavored with Gin, Lemon, Honey. It has become one of my favorite drinks.
Let the Good times roll!
