Marriage is tough and so is divorce... we all need a little advice or assistance at times.
Meet Jacqui Atcheson, Relationship Coach, A Better Path to Divorce
Tell us about your business
In 1977, I was a young bride with a husband who had 2 children, somewhere. In 1979, we had our first little baby girl. And then I received the phone call, "Mrs. Schwartz, this is the other Mrs. Schwartz". So now, we were a family of 5 overnight. I watched what these 2 adults did to these sweet little angel babies. I knew there had to be a better way. This has been my journey in life, to protect the children. Then my own marriage went steadily downhill. 23 years later, it was my time to get divorced. My journey as a step-mother, a mother, a wife, a wage earner, a nurturer, a divorce mediator and now a certified divorce coach is my life's passion, to help others get it right. Divorce was the gift I never knew I needed.
Describe yourself in three words:
Compassionate, Real, Passionate about every minute of every day!
What do you consider your greatest professional achievement?
Watching my clients step over the threshold from the feelings of helplessness and watching them meet and exceed their personal and professional goals.
What are your professional goals for the next six months?
To continue my passion of getting folks out of the "emotional" piece of divorce and into the "business" of divorce as quickly as possible so they can live their best lives.
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
Relationship coaching as I work one-on-one with individuals not sure about divorce. I don't advocate divorce and if they come to see me they are clearly not 100% sure. I have a program that assists my clients but working with both parties would be doubly awesome!
How do you maintain a work/life balance?
My marriage comes first but I have a relationship that is now amazingly healthy. We have our own lives and interests but come together as a couple, parents and grandparents. I work out 5 mornings a week for stress relief and keeping physically healthy and I practice mindfulness. I love my work and love to travel, cook, bike ride, read self hope books and articles (I am a work in progress) and sharing my home with family and friends.
What websites do you visit every day?
My absolute favorite website and app is: Ashtok Gupta's Meaning of Life, starts my day.
What are your top three favorite people/places/things to do in your city?
Pier 115 in Edgewater in the summer for fun outdoor dining and views of the city
River Palm in Edgewater
Wild, Wild West with my grandsons
The High Line in NYC then run around the galleries in Chelsea, little hidden jewels
What is your goal for retirement?
Exactly what I am doing now.
Do you have any advice for women who'd like to start their own company?
Live your passion, see the vision, make the plans, watch it happen!
Any final comments?
Be true to yourself and others. Find the gift in every day. Understand that everybody has had their own journey that got them where they are today!
