If you’ve been following Orlando Housewives since our launch in January, you probably have a good idea of what “Orlando Housewives in the City” is all about; but for all of our newbies and maybe even those not so new, I hope that this post gives a better understanding of what Orlando HITC is all about.
Housewives in the City (housewivesinthecity.com) is a National Organization that got its start in Northern Virginia (think DC area). Our founder, Andrea Khoury, was a sorority sister of mine at George Mason University, and I had been following all of the fun events and opportunities that she had been bringing to the NOVA area. Although I wanted to bring Orlando HITC to the Central Florida sooner, the time was just not right for me personally. I continued to watch as Housewives in the City grew all over the USA, in cities both near and far. Finally, I decided it was time we had a HITC here in Central Florida!
So, what is Housewives in the City?
It’s an organization that offers networking, friendships, a way to learn about local businesses, a support network, and so much more! In all of our cities, we have a monthly Girls Night Out networking social that are free and open to all women in our city. There is no membership nor is there a requirement to be a housewife, wife, mom, or entrepreneur. So if you live in Central Florida, come join us and meet some other local ladies! We usually have some vendors, happy hour specials, raffles, and swag bags at all our events – so they are definitely not to be missed!
Is it just networking socials?
No! We are more than that. We of course have this blog, but here in Orlando we also periodically run specials, promotions, and giveaways on our social media pages. We also keep you up-to-date on shows, events, restaurants, and more! Orlando Housewives is on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest. If you are looking for an extra place to network, join our private Facebook group, where you can post about your business and make connections!
But what do you get out of this?
I get this question A LOT at our Girls Night Out events. Like most in Orlando, I am a transplant, originally from VA. I found it was hard to meet other women in the area unless it was through work or networking events specific to my line of work. I wanted a way to meet women of all ages and backgrounds, while also trying new places and helping support local businesses. I have to say, since launching in January, this has been one of the best ventures I have taken part in. I have learned about so many new and fun things to do in Central Florida and I’ve also met so many wonderful ladies through our GNOs! I’ve learned about many of our local grass-root charities and have been able to bring them to your attention via our blog and GNOs. Plus, this has been a great way to utilize my passion for planning!
Now you know!
So now that you know more about Orlando Housewives, I hope that you will join us for our upcoming events, whether as an attendee, a vendor, or who knows - maybe a venue! Oh, and be sure to say hello to me at our GNOs, I LOVE hearing from all of you lovely ladies!
As many of you know, I became a full-time teacher this year. I previously worked in the legal field as a Paralegal and then I was a substitute teacher for almost all of the last school year. A little backstory (there always is, right?), I had planned to become a teacher when I graduated high school. I went to college in Virginia, became a psychology major, all with the intention of going for my Masters in Education and becoming a teacher. Life changed things and I ended up “falling” into the legal field instead.
So now I am a full-time middle school teacher, and I’ve been working for about a month now, between planning weeks and having actual students. Things have been great and also super busy! Being a first-year teacher, I have a lot to learn and lots of ideas that I am learning how to execute. I also have classes I have to take along with my outside school life where I run this blog and plan fun networking events every month for all of you ladies! I’m trying to hard not to drop the ball, but I know this first month I’ve left a few things go. I hope now that I am getting into more of a swing of things, that I will be able to continue juggling it all and succeed in both of my careers, because I love them both. I absolutely love seeing my students understand and repeat concepts that I have taught them, especially when they get so excited they can’t wait to answer a question. I also love hearing how much you ladies enjoy our Girls Night Out Networking Socials and seeing so many familiar faces each month. So no worries -they will continue!
Thank you all for being patient with me during this transition time and I cannot wait to share more with you and host more events! Next month – Sugar Factory Orlando – see you there! Click here for info and FREE tickets!
Hello and thank you for taking the time to check out our page! My name is Michelle and I wanted to use this first post to introduce myself to you. I was born and raised in Hampton Roads, Virginia and then went to college at George Mason University in Northern Virginia (Go Patriots!). After a few years in Virginia Beach, my boyfriend and I moved to Central Florida. It’s now been 4.5 years and to say I love it here is an understatement! I am truly a Floridian now – 70 degrees is freezing to me.
One thing I found to be very difficult once graduating from college and then especially once moving to a whole new state, is meeting new people. Sure, you can meet new people at work or possibly some career networking events, but I had a hard time meeting a lot of new ladies from all walks of life. When the opportunity of bringing Housewives in the City to Orlando came about, I figured this would be the PERFECT way to not only meet new women myself, but also help others that may want to get out and meet new people too! I have seen how amazing Girls Night Out events are in our other cities and I can’t wait to bring the same fun to all of you!
I’m looking forward to sharing my life and other local information with you. A little more about me: I love traveling, spending my days at the parks, finding new places and activities to take part in, going on cruises, trying new restaurants, and hanging out with my friends and family. I also have two dogs who are my world.
I hope that you continue to check here and on our social media pages to see what I’m up to and what fun you can join in on. Stay tuned for our upcoming January Girls Night Out launch event! If you ever see me out and about, please come say hello – I can’t wait to meet you!
