At Home With Holly Fye
For me, this time of year always seems to fly by. One day it is Halloween, you blink and it is now Christmas Eve. Shopping! Decorating! Baking! Parties! OH MY!
Despite all of the hustle and bustle, it’s my favorite time of year. Those that know me would tell you that I put up a Christmas tree in just about every room of my house. Oh, by the way, each one has a theme. Of course, the trees are just the beginning for my home inside and out. Each window is decorated with greenery, candles, and ribbon, and I even have a sleigh and reindeer in my front yard. That’s just the beginning! I have to admit, I’ve learned over the years some little shortcuts especially when it comes to the home. Since Christmas is right around the corner, I wanted to share with you some of those tips. Hopefully, it will help you get back some time that you can reallocate to spending with your family and friends. Don’t worry, no matter whether it’s just you, your family, friends, office party, or you are showing your home to potential buyers who might want to make an offer, your house will be decorated and at its best.
The Tree: The bigger and fuller the better, right? That’s what I used to think. I’ve now realized that the smaller pencil trees are just as nice, especially if you have multiple trees like I do, and they take a fraction of the time to decorate. About two dozen ornaments, festive sprays or picks, tree topper, and a skirt, VOILA, you are done.
Table Top Decorations: I remember as a child, my mother used to spend hours setting up this elaborate snow village on the table in the foyer of our home. While it was beautiful, unfortunately, I just don’t have that kind of time. Instead, try a beautiful accent piece that is both festive and makes a statement. I’ll take this tip one step further, if you find a box that fits the piece assembled, all you have to do is pull it out and sit it on the table. No assembly required! It goes away just as easily.
Smells That Bring Back Fond Memories: This tip is one I use year-round as well as when I’m holding an open house. People have commented that it smells like home, which is of course, exactly what you want, right? In simmering water, add lemon slices, fresh cranberries, rosemary, and cloves. Experiment with the amount of each ingredient to get the desired aroma you are looking for.
Easy & Festive Gifts: Try your and at creating this reindeer craft! They are great for hostess gifts, party favors, housewarming gifts, a little something for your coworkers, and even stocking stuffers for the kiddos. In a piping bag, add hot chocolate powder, mini chocolate chips, and marshmallows. Secure the top of the bag. Twist a brown pipe cleaner around the top for antlers and glue googley eyes and a red pompom at the tip for his face. Super easy and sure to be a hit!
In the comments below, I’d love to hear about your tips and tricks to make the holiday season a little brighter for all of us.
Wishing you and yours’ Happy “Holly”-Days!
