I am the mother to five kids. Eating out can often be a glorious occasion of no cooking or cleanup partnered with a fun food experience. Other times eating out can be daunting and embarrassing if my children have left their manners at home. The great thing about restaurants in San Antonio is many of them have playscapes.
This has allowed me to actually get down all my food even if my kids have scarfed theirs. They can be off sliding and swinging while I enjoy conversation with my Mom or a friend. When I was in “mountain town Colorado” this was never the option so it is a welcomed additive to our eating out adventures.
So here are 4 of my favorite four restaurants that are kid friendly and my favorite things to get on the menu. (in no particular order)
The Cove: 606 W. Cypress St., 210-227-2683Texas Monthly named this one of the best burgers in the state but there is so much more to this eclectic, family-friendly joint. It’s a must see when visiting San Antonio with children, or if you have laundry to do or need your car washed. Come see for yourself and try my fav the fish tacos with sweet potato fries. Or Warm Beet Salad *Bonus* this place have vegetarian and gluten-free options too.
Big’z Burger Joint :Near Seaworld 10106 State Highway 151 S. San Antonio, Texas 78251 (210) 543-2029Be sure to bring a ball or frisbee for this large turf-filled playground. It is perfect for a game of catch while enjoying a burger. If you need a private event there is a Party Barn for rent. There are so many burger toppings to pick from but our favorite is pineapples and jalapenos. There is also a location north of town as well (1604).
Two Brothers BBQ Market: 12656 West Ave San Antonio, TX 78216 210-496-0222This is Texas BBQ at its finest! It doesn’t get any tastier than Two Bros BBQ Market. Just off the N 281 and West Ave with a large playground and sandbox surrounded by picnic tables. If you have a large group for dining, this is the place. There prices are spot on. We can feed a family of 7 (Dad, Mom and kids from 15 to 2) for $50 and have leftovers with the 4 Bro’s meal, with a free refills of lemonade, tea and purple kool-aide, that’s our recommendation.
El Machito: 7300 Jones Maltsberger, San Antonio TX 78209A Mexican bar-be-que experience, El Machito (a "brother" restaurant to La Gloria on the river) is a unique BBQ with decor straight from Mexico but an outdoor playground perfect for all children. With a large patio, the kids can play while you enjoy some meat taco’s, with side of meat salad, and meat platter.Ha! No joke. It’s a meat eater's paradise.
Thankfully most of the times my kids are really good when we go out to eat. They enjoy the experience as much as I do and they know that if Mama gives "the look" they better straighten up.
Do you like dinning at places with playscapes? Do you have any you would add to my list?
