.Who said you can’t fly?
Because now days you can. I tried it.
Ifly here in San Antonio collaborated with me to come out and experience a flight with them and some of my other blogger friends. It was by far the most exhilarating experience I have had since I climbed a fourteener in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.
First off, I was set up for some training video's and to learn safety standards to be sure I didn’t wreck myself or any of the fly equipment.
But let me paint this picture for you.
This is what they say to me in the video.
Stay flat, head up, relax….uh, what?!!
I can’t walk and chew gum. I thought for sure that I was not going to be able to fly. Or that I was going to slam my face into the clear plastic walls. Because doing all three of those things is surely going to end in disaster.
But it didn’t. It was way easier then I thought. Thomas was our official “fly guide.” He was gentle to let me in on this whirling wind tunnel. How he stayed grounded I have no idea because I was all “limbs up.”
Laying flat and keeping my head up while in “flying arm and leg position” felt pretty natural for the way the wind blew by. Plus with all Thomas’ direction, he made sure that I was at my optimum position for flight. And I was....see my photo below.
This experience is amazing. Flying through the air, circling and weightless. On the second flight I got a little in my head and had a hard time relaxing but I was still able to hold on to the position long enough for Thomas to send me whirling up the tube with him guiding.
It was breathtaking.
Literally breathtaking. I had to catch my breath once I left the tube. It pretty much feels like sticking your head out the window at 65 mph. It’s not hard to breath but it definitely helped to stay relaxed and to breath through my nose. (which you can see by this video that I didn’t do.)
All the ifly staff was great too. I got to chat with them about about their field trips that teach the STEM logistics of the wind tunnel. Plus they have a great little party room for birthdays or corporate parties. What a great way to celebrate with a gift of flight.
You can find all this info here on their website. They have many opportunities for flight. You can even fly if you are already certified as a skydiver.
