Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation is our featured charity this month. I would encourage you to visit their site https://www.alexslemonade.org/about-alexs-lemonade-stand-foundation-childhood-cancer and learn more about the incredible things they are doing!
Did you know - Every day, 700 children worldwide are diagnosed with childhood cancer. Yet, childhood cancer research only receives less than 4-percent of the National Cancer Institute’s annual budget. It is up to all of us to fund research and find cures, so that someday these children are cured.
Our host AR Workshop is supporting Lemonade Days. What is that you ask?
A timeless tradition, lemonade stands have been a fixture on neighborhood and city blocks for decades. During Lemonade Days, supporters across the country turn these summer staples into impactful fundraisers for kids fighting cancer. Join in the fun by hosting a lemonade stand or event with family, friends, co-workers and classmates. Make your stand and raise money for children everywhere waiting for better treatments and cures. Register for Lemonade Days today! Saturday, June 1 – Sunday, June 9, 2019 are lemonade days! Learn more, do more and be more! Get your kids involved! It's always a good time to help!

Any advice for women who’d like to start their own company: As the old saying goes: “when the going gets tough, the tough gets going”. Follow your passion, stay focused, stay consistent. There is always someone there to help you, just reach out..
This is a common question that I get when being asked about our events. You don't have to be anything other than a lady! We love meeting other ladies from our area and really enjoy the opportunity to get out for the sake of socializing outside of the activities we do on a regular basis. We encourage you to let your hair down and take an hour or two to enjoy some girl time.
We make friends, we invite friends, we become friends. I have to say that I have, in the short four months of hosting these events, have met some of the most incredible women around. I've learned, I've shared, I've carried and been carried. When you think of those women that adjust your crown and keep moving without saying a word, this is a group full of them. They are amazing and we always invite other amazing women to join us! We will be at Barley Naked Brewery 4/30/19 from 6:30 - 9. Grab a ticket at https://www.facebook.com/events/624594167963279/ and come on out.
I'd like to introduce you ladies to an extraordinary woman. She's a mom, an ER nurse, a friend to those around her and a very determined lady! Meet Jenni Shirk, with It Works!
I finished school and became a nurse while raising my daughter, then managed to complete my bachelors degree while raising my son, and helping my daughter complete her schooling!
I started with It Works as a customer, and use the products regularly. My coworker assisted me with becoming a distributor. I work a full-time job and I'm a mom to two. I believe in the products I take, and therefore would like to share with the results with others. I have more energy, and feel better overall. My complexion has also improved.
She describes herself as friendly, honest and hard-working.
I enjoy nursing and plan on continuing in the field, while continuing to try to help others accomplish what they desire. I am happy in my current career, and would like to continue where I am, while growing my independent sales for It Works. I am lucky enough to work for a company that allows me to set my own schedule. Working for It Works allows me to share their products in my spare time. My goal is to be financially stable prior to retirement. To have both of my children set up with goals for them to accomplish.
In her spare time Jenni says:
I love to walk my dog around the scenic trails, enjoy family time at the local parks, and enjoy get togethers at the local brewery.
Advice she has for others considering going into business:
Make sure you believe in what you are doing. Try the merchandise for yourself, and go for it. There will never be the perfect time to start something new, create that time. Believe in yourself.
Meet Joan Diaz-Mendez, Realtor with Coldwell Banker Elite. She's going to be joining us at our March Madness GNO and we couldn't be more excited!
When asked how she got into the business, here's what she shared: "Sink or Swim instincts after the market crashed and in the middle of a divorce. Oh, and let's not forget the 13 month old child who would be losing his home due to extenuating circumstances. That's the short version but you get the idea. My areas of expertise come from the financial and business experience I have had since 2006. Combining this experience with cutting edge technology, a positive attitude, integrity, and tenacity are just a few of the positive experiences my clients have enjoyed. My business experience has also taught me how to effectively negotiate and execute any deal professionally."
How does this busy lady keep work-life balance? Through yoga and events with friends. We also host many house parties with other family and friends.
What would she do if she didn't do this? Own a boutique hotel.
What advice would you give another? When creating your own business you should write your goals down, envision your goals and truly be honest with yourself in terms of commitment that you can put out towards it at the beginning. It's essential to not lose yourself in this process. A great example is Social Media, you should create a schedule for that every day.

Barbara Gustavson with Discover Next Step.
When my mom passed away I took a look at my life and realized I had not developed my potential and was often living from a place of fear. While I was working successfully in the corporate world, it was not meaningful work and I set out to find my own unique purpose and how I can make a better difference in the world.
In 2012 I joined the John Maxwell Team, an international organization of speakers, coachers and trainers. While I had no intention of becoming a speaker or coach, I decided to face my fears and develop my communication and speaking skills. I experienced so much personal growth I decided to become a certified speaker and coach.
What motivated me was getting clear on my purpose and mission, which is to help people discover their strengths, see their value, live more boldly and make a difference.
I decided to share more of my story and published a self-leadership book called Permission to be BOLD: A Guide to Loving Yourself, Living Fully and Leaving Your Mark on the World. It's now available on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/dp/0997687223/ref=nav_timeline_asin?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1.
Some fun facts:
I consider myself to be a Purpose-Driven, Curious, Collaborator. If I wasn't doing this, what would I do? Neuroscientist (this would make my my 'inner geek' happy)
Get to know this awesome lady at our GNO tomorrow night! Want to contact her?
I don't know about you, but I have noticed that great customer service is getting harder to find. I have, to some degree, become numb to the lack of even the basics. It should never come as a surprise to us when we receive great customer service. It's a huge reason that I love the staff at Vinny's Italian Grill on Leavells Rd., Fredericksburg. They are fun and attentive to the needs of their customers. I'm excited about going back over there this week for our GNO! I can't wait to get in the swing of things on Thursday evening!!
Their menu is full of delicious options and the ambiance of the place is warm and friendly. They are huge supporters of the community and are just a pleasure to deal with.
Last night we went over to Fatty's Taphouse Seafood & Grill and I can tell you it was a total experience! Their menu (can be found on their website http://fattystaphouse.com) and they do not disappoint! Chef Jeff Newcomer will make your tastebuds dance. The service and attention to detail was great. It started with Dan (complete with dimples that are just adorable) sharing his recipes for the drinks that he's put together for our social. (Check our FB page for a complete list!)
Next we met Chris the owner. He came out to welcome us and pose for pictures, but as you can imagine, he's a busy guy. Chef Jeff came out to check on us and see how we were enjoying the Salmon Cilantro Tacos. I am no gourmet cook (that's all Wanda), but I love good food that has character. There were so many complimentary flavors that it made me want to slow down just to enjoy each and every one of them . It was a joy to speak with him because his passion for his work is so apparent. In addition to the main menu they have daily specials that offer yummy delights such as Blackened Shrimp Mac & Cheese. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced.
You know we couldn't leave without trying a dessert and it, like everything else, it was fabulous! We went with the Key Lime pie and thinking about it again while writing this is making my mouth water all over again. The perfect amount of sweet and tart,
They have an impressive wall of beers available for you to try. It's an amazing site! We were excited to find out that they are going to be opening a second location down around Cosner's Corner that will have a expanded menu, live music and of course the awesome selection of beers. I'm already working on another GNO with them on that end of town,
I look forward to seeing you all there Thursday and Fatty's staff is excited for us come! Please, be sure to check out their website http://fattystaphouse.com, find them on FB at Fatty's Taphouse Seafood Bar and Grille and on IG at https://www.instagram.com/explore/locations/1031669226979417/fattys-taphouse-seafood-bar-and-grille.
Hello Stephanie Turner! Stephanie will be joining us as a vendor for our Feb. event and she has a passion for cleaning without chemicals. She was first introduced to the products when Norwex was a gift given to her at a party and it has been an amazing journey ever since. She's been Norwexing for over 6 years helping families improve their lives by saving time, money and reducing the use harmful chemicals in their homes.
Three traits that describe her: Joyful (Indeed! Just look at that smile!!), thankful, loyal.
When she's not sharing Norwex with folks, she like to get her nails done at Angel Nails Spa, or enjoy Crab Rice at Nara Thai Cuisine, and Pledge Of Allegiance at Mission Barbecue Every. Day. at noon. If she wasn't selling Norwex what might she like to do? She'd like to be a professional singer!!
She's super excited to have Housewives in the City in her area and we are super excited to meet her!!
Meet Jackie Huber with Bellawood Photography. She's going to be handling the photography at our event this month!!!
We visited her at her studio and were blown away! This amazing artist has a serious passion for her craft. She has a Studio Art Degree from our very own Mary Washington, she's a marine corp veteran, wife and mom! She stays current with her skills by joining groups of other photographers from around the world. She's studying the techniques of Peter Hurley and she's a member of The Headshot Crew.
What does all of this mean to you? It means that she's constantly improving her skills and finding ways to provide the best headshots/photos for her clientele. She's got some very cool projects in the works and I personally can't wait to see the finished products! She does offer hair and makeup (when available) at the studio.
