We are thrilled to spotlight The Centre For Girls as our featured Tampa non-profit for this month! The Centre for Girls is a program of The Helen Gordon Davis Centre for Women, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in Tampa. The Centre for Girls offers innovative programming during after-school hours and a summer camp that includes fine arts, ceramics, fashion, dance, and STEM-based instruction to girls, ages 5-14. The Centre for Girls strives to provide young girls with a safe place to spend time, learn skills, make friends, and interact with caring adults.
Located in Old Seminole Heights, The Centre For Girls offers programs in art & education, health & wellness, girl empowerment, and green living. Under the leadership of their amazing director, Sartura Smith, The Centre For Girls is striving to be the most well-known and highly regarded center for girls in the Tampa Bay area. They believe in creating positive change for each girl touched by the Centre, regardless of her socioeconomic background.
How Can You Help?
Do you have a passion for empowering girls? The Centre For Girls needs your support to fund their programs, deliver quality instruction, and enhance the lives of the next generation of girls. They are actively looking for volunteers, community partners, and sponsors.
Tampa Housewives in the City will be doing an item drive to support CFG's summer programs. They are currently in need of snack/breakfast items for their upcoming summer camp that begins on June 10th. The summer food program that previously provided meals for their children during the summer lost their funding, so we are collecting donations of snack/breakfast items at our Noble Crust Carrollwood Girls Night Out on June 4th. We hope you will join us and help support this amazing Tampa organization!

Mother's Day is just around the corner, which means it's a perfect time to make some muffins for mom! Whether you're baking them for your mom or enjoying them yourself, these muffins will not disappoint. This recipe is one that prompted a close friend of ours to suggest I open my own bakery, which I have no intention of doing, but I will gladly bake these often for our enjoyment!
Full of cinnamon-goodness, these muffins are soft and delicious. I adapted this recipe from another from Barbara Bakes for snickerdoodle bread. I was short on time recently with a cinnamon craving and did not have time to bake the loaves, I tried the recipe as muffins. I dare say they are even more delicious this way!
Cinnamon chips can be challenging to find outside of the holiday season. I try to stock up when I see them since this is favorite recipe around my house. You can use Hershey's handy website tool to find them near you, or I've also had success substituting white chocolate chips in place of the cinnamon chips. I highly suggest using the cinnamon chips if you can find them though. Also, if you are hoping to cut some fat and calories but still want to bake these, I have been able to substitute Greek yogurt in place of the sour cream. Of course the sour cream version is a bit more delicious, but the trade off isn't too noticeable.
We always have such a fun crowd at our Wesley Chapel events, and our April 4th Ladies Night Out at The Brass Tap - Wiregrass was no exception! We welcomed over 75 local women to socialize, mingle, enjoy delicious samples from Yummy Tablas and Nothing Bundt Cakes, and meet wonderful business owners from Lunar Body Boudoir and Mary Kay. We also had a fun photo booth from Friendly Showcase that was a huge hit! We welcomed familiar faces and new guests, and we cannot wait to do it again next month at our May 1st Summer Bash at American Social!

Our charity spotlight for April is for a cause close to my heart. It is also one that we've highlighted before! The STANO Foundation was founded to support our Armed Forces, Veterans, and their families through program-based initiatives focused on enhancing their comfort and quality of life by providing them with a piece of home.
I had the pleasure of speaking with the founder, Paula Stano. She is a single mom of a US Marine who is the inspiration behind this organization. After his enlistment, she quickly learned of how many of our military troops didn’t have any or much support from back home. With her son being stationed overseas, it became painstakingly apparent during the holiday season that these men and women would have to celebrate in either their barracks or maybe a local USO and not with their families. Paula would like to incorporate a program here in the Tampa Bay area where anyone stationed here without family would be able to sign up for a program where they could spend holidays with host families so they didn’t feel so alone. Paula has a great passion of helping others and wants to help our soldiers feel closer to home even when stationed far from their families.
The STANO Foundation is best known for their personalized care packages that they send overseas. They focus on providing a personal, heart felt touch into every package. This is done by asking “what can we do better?” And “what would you like in your care package?” They send out these packages throughout the year, with particularly large shipments during July and before Christmas time. The packages are made possible by item and shipping cost donations from the community. You can view the entire list of requested donation items on their website.
This Thursday, April 4th, Tampa Housewives in the City will be collecting items needed for upcoming care packages: beef jerky, men’s deodorant, or puzzle books at our Ladies Night Out at The Brass Tap - Wiregrass from 5 - 8 pm.
Please visit The Stano Foundation's website for a full overview of their programs and opportunities to support them.

Our spotlight non-profit this month is Spark The Way. This Tampa charity sees, serves, and supports young adults, age 18-39, and their families who are affected by cancer. They provide a community that walks alongside fighters, survivors, and caregivers by funding medical bills and living expenses, providing connections and emotional support from their care team, and raising awareness through outreach events. They are not just a resource, but a relationship.
Spark the Way began after founder, Madison Miller, was put into remission from lymphoma. She was diagnosed with cancer at 20 years old, and in that same month, also lost her Grandpa to the disease. Not soon after, her Grandma was diagnosed and is still fighting to this day. Her life was surrounded by cancer, but also by the community she found in her church. Her faith in Jesus and life-giving community was her strength in battle, and were also the parts of the story that gave her the ability to be victorious from the first day of diagnosis. Spark the Way ignites the same faith in the young adult generation that equips them to be fearless and Light-bearing in the face of darkness.
“Young adult” is not usually a thought that comes to mind when someone hears the word cancer, but the world needs to know that a diagnosis is spoken over the life of a young adult every 8 minutes. One of Spark the Way's biggest goals is to create awareness of the young adult cancer generation. They strive to have a presence at every event and festival they can find, as well as host their own night of awareness, the Ignite the Light Gala.
Ignite the Light Gala
Fri, April 26, 2019, 6:00 PM - 11:00 PM
The 4th Annual Ignite the Light Gala is going to be an impactful, empowering night as they share their mission and vision for the young adult cancer community. Come out and enjoy great food and a fancy, fun evening!
To get some sneak previews of the Behind-the-Scenes of Spark the Way's ITL Gala, follow their Instagram or Facebook page.

I love visiting the beach. I love the colors, the smells, the beautiful scenery, and the way I feel when I am relaxing on a balcony overlooking the gulf or ocean. I have always wanted to recreate that experience in my home decor, and I am thrilled to share that Coastal Living Magazine has a Coastal Living Collection that is perfect to bring the feel of the beach home to your house, no matter where you live! I recently had the opportunity to attend a celebration of this home decor line at the Matter Brothers Furniture store in Sarasota where they also welcomed Tracey Minkin, travel editor of Coastal Living Magazine, to share 2019 coastal design trends with us.
Tracey shared a gorgeous slideshow of various designs they are seeing as current trends in home decor when living on or near the coast. While I loved seeing how the designers were incorporating the aqua and coral colors, along with bold prints (even on wallpaper!), I also knew how much I personally struggle to decorate my own home. I never can quite get the look I want, and I find it so challenging to decorate in a way that still is welcoming and practical for living with kids. After her presentation, I took the time to explore the Matter Brothers Furniture showroom and the Coastal Living Collection.
I quickly learned how easily we can all incorporate the coastal life into our own homes with the help of the Coastal Living Collection! With the beautiful clean lines, crisp cream and white colors, and strategic pops of color from pillows or pieces of art, I am eager to emulate the coastal look at home. I love that you don't have to be as heavy handed with navy colors or multiple tropical colors. And the best part of it all? Even if I can't personally put together the look on my own, I can shop at Matter Brothers Showroom and purchase all of the pieces in an entire room to bring home. Take a look at this beautiful living room:
I had a little (okay, a lot) of added excitement at this Coastal Living Collection launch event. Matter Brothers and Coastal Living partnered for a giveaway of an amazing loveseat to one lucky winner, and I won! It could not have been better timing as we are replacing our loveseat in our living room and have been looking at options recently. I even almost bought a new sofa last week but my husband convinced me to wait a little while. I am so glad that I did! Check out these photos of the Stone Harbor loveseat in the store:
And now I'm excited to share the loveseat in my living room! This room is a work in progress for us, but it looks gorgeous with my rug and pillows. We are starting our hunt for a coffee table and/or ottomans for in front of it, and eventually will add a recliner or chair to finish out the seating in the room.
I'm interested to hear from you all about your thoughts on decorating your home and trying to capture a certain look. Do you struggle with it like I do? What do you think of this Coastal Living Collection? Share a comment below or on our social media posts!

Stageworks, Tampa’s longest-running professional theatre company, welcomes you to experience its first main stage production of 2019, Ready Steady Yeti Go, from February 8th – 24th, 2019, written by David Jacobi and directed by Dan Granke.
In the aftermath of a hate crime, Goon befriends Carly Uhlenbeek, the only black girl in school. Things start to go south when bad parental advice, passive-aggressive acts, and ill-formed gestures of kindness create a “White Guilt Perfect Storm” that threatens to drown their relationship.
This play is charming and funny with a sharp edge of heartbreaking truth. It’s clever, moving and ingenious. It takes on our assumptions about people's character and the painful sacrifices we make for love and family. At its heart though it is an uplifting story about young star-crossed lovers wrapped in a comedy wrapped in a satire with a healthy streak of political commentary.
Middle School Bullying, Parent & Child Relationships, Racism, Personal Safety
This play is a rolling world premiere as part of the National New Play Network and will bring playwright, David Jacobi to Tampa opening week (Feb.4-8) to work with the cast and production. Ready Steady Yeti Go features young actors from Blake High School’s Magnet Program of the arts and is sponsored by community partner Safe & Sound, Hillsborough County’s violence prevention collaborative.

If you were one of the wonerful ladies who attended our bartaco Girls Night Out in November, you had the pleasure of meeting author Sydney Knox. I recently had the chance to learn more about the fabulous woman behind the Sydney Knox novels (fun fact: that's actually a pen-name and her other business ventures are under her name, Pamela Bell-Morrow!), and I know you will love getting to know her!
You can find more about the Sydney Knox novels on her website and Facebook page.
Tell us about your business.
I was born a writer, but to make a living from it has been my dream. It took a lot of opportunity and preparation to realize it. I started out as a stockbroker out of college, then began a successful marketing firm with an ex. Setbacks are lessons, otherwise they’re just setbacks so why see it that way? I kept going and now as a creative copywriter, novelist as Sydney Knox and a private real estate investor, I’ve achieved a life goal - writing creatively and getting paid for it.
Describe yourself in three words:
Resourceful, passionate, reliable
What do you consider your greatest professional achievement?
Two of them actually, finishing my first book series and earning my series 7 license. I hadn’t been a finance/business major and that test is hard! When I let it expire, I felt free - no turning or looking back and I never have. And then writing my first book series was like childbirth times ten.
What are your professional goals for the next six months?
I keep little lighthouse goals I keep quiet but in six months I’d like my brand to have a wider circulation in the vertical I think most effective for it, and I’m always workings toward finding interesting networks with like-mined people to join.
How do you maintain a work/life balance?
It’s gotten easier over the years since my daughter has reached her teen years. I’ve always kept my family and things that brought income to my family as priories first, and as for the house – I’ve always kept things at the best level I could. Nothing was perfect, but we’ve turned out okay.
Hi! I'm Diana. I love the beach, my family, chocolate, coffee, and meeting new people. I host monthly events in the Tampa area and cannot wait to meet all of you!
